This week’s episode is one I’ve been long anticipating. A live, extended, in-studio visit with veteran NorCal musicians Natalie Cortez and Jay Knox. They’ve been a big part of the Sacramento music scene for longer than I’ve been living here (20+ years). When I arrived in Sacramento in 1997, there was a thriving music scene…

The radio gods smiled down on Twirl Radio again this week. We were blessed with two fun and interesting interviews with artists who have brand new albums out. In the first hour, we chatted with Linda Karlsberg and Marcus Segersvärd from Swedish band In Deed. They were vacationing in Finland, one time zone east from…

On this week’s show, we got to celebrate recent releases from San Francisco band Trip Wire, and New Jersey’s The Schramms. In the first hour, we dialed into San Francisco to talk with Marty Schneider, Stu Shader, and Jeff Shelton (lots of alliteration there) of Trip Wire. Jeff’s been on the show before for his…

This week’s show was two decades in the making. And I mean that almost literally. Our very special in-studio guests were Sacramento’s own The Decibels! I’ve known Dean Seavers online for nearly 20 years, and have been a fan of their music since their 2001 release Big Sounds of the Decibels. But here’s the catch–I’d…

A bit late with the playlist and blog this week, but no less relevant: this week’s Twirl show was, as they say in the UK, a real corker! (Did I get that right?) We had a couple of guests, and one of them was even from England! In the first hour, our guest was Matt…

Well, I finally did it. Yes. It. What is this “it”, you ask? I finally had David Brookings, of David Brookings and the Average Lookings (one of the best band names out there) on Twirl Radio! I’ve been a big fan of his music for at least a half a decade, but it’s been a…

This week’s Twirl crossed a new frontier, if you will. Thanks to Access Sacramento, home of KUBU 96.5 FM, we expand from our historical two hour time slot to a full three hours. That’s right, 50% more of everything–more music, more interviews, more music, more chatter, more good vibes, and most importantly, more music! So…

This week’s show was a treat. The legendary Mimi Betinis, front man of seminal power pop band Pezband, was our guest. I’ve been meaning to have him on Twirl for quite some time, and a special occasion provided the right time for a visit. What was the special occasion? A 40th anniversary remix and re-release…

If last week’s show was one for the books, this week’s was one for the ages. 3 sets of guests–all live, in the Sacramento studio. And thanks to my friend Bill Fuller (The Long Hair Detectorists Guild), who was off this week, I got to expand to a full 4 hours! And we seriously needed…

This show was one for the books. Completely fun and unpredictable. Another episode with three interviews, and yes, we pulled this off. First up–Anton Barbeau and Julia Boorinakis Harper returned to the show. Yes, Anton is from here (Sacramento) originally. And yes, he lives in Berlin. And yes, he’s finlly released his long-awaited solo record,…
