Woody Radio DJ Mike Show #472 3/30/2024: Interview with Don Dannemann of The Cyrkle!

In this episode, my very special guest is Don Dannemann, the lead singer of the pop band The Cyrkle! Yes, that Cyrkle. The “Red Rubber Ball” guys, the fellas who were given their band name by John Lennon. The guys who toured with The Beatles, and opened for them at their final show as a touring act, the legendary 1966 Candlestick Park gig in San Francisco. And yes, Red Rubber Ball and Turn Down Day were massive hits for them in the mid 1960s.

So it came as a pleasant surprise when Big Stir Records announced that The Cyrkle had new music: their first album in over 50 years, “Revival”. Actually, to us music fans, it’s a welcome miracle. And the best part: these guys still sound really good. Great vocals and harmonies abound. Original members Don Dannemann and Mike Losekamp are joined by Pat McLoughlin, Dean Kastran, Don White, and Scott Langley to make the transition from 1960s pop band to 2020s pop band complete. Several members contribute original songs and lead vocals, and these guys are having a ball making new music.

What a treat to chat with Don. It was fun and animated. We got to hear the story of the making of this album, some of the insider stories from back in the day, and Don’s special recipe for a couple of different cocktails–one with and one without alcohol. Give a listen. For more information on The Cyrkle and their new album Revival: https://bigstirrecords.com/the-cyrkle
