In this episode, we catch up with acclaimed guitarist Robert Poss. We last chatted on my old Twirl Radio show over 5 years ago. The founding member of Band of Susans just put out a great solo record, “drones, songs, and fairy dust”. If you like guitars, he’s got ’em–this is a guitar album, to be sure. But in this outing, he also provides bass, drums, occasional vocals, and whatever else is needed, so it’s truly a solo record. Robert’s got a producer’s ear and mindset, so thankfully, he has the objectivity to know what sounds right. And this album does. There’s at least two aspects of this music–the rockers, and the atmospheric pieces, and they play well together. Our conversation covered such topics as genres and using drones (the sound, not the little flying copter thingies) as composition springboard.
