Woody Radio DJ Mike Show #453 1/20/2024: Interview with and performance by the Natalie Cortez Band!

I’ve been in Sacramento a long time. Over a quarter of a century, to be more precise. And if you know me, you know that music is everything. When I first got here, I almost immediately started exploring the area’s robust music scene, and one of the first two bands* I immediately got taken with was Natalie Cortez and the Ultraviolets. Today’s Natalie Cortez Band is the natural successor to the Ultraviolets, and they’ve been back on the Sacramento (and California at large) music scene for the past several years, making people happy with their upbeat rock and roll. They’re as wonderful as ever.

On this episode, Natalie Cortez, Jay Knox, and Christopher Cassels joined me live in the Sacramento Woody Radio studios. We had an extended conversation, and they even played several songs for us live on the show! We also talked about several other Sacramento bands and played their music as well.

A couple of fun surprises emerged during the show. We got to experience some of Christopher’s great songwriting as well, and he even played a song for us, solo. And the other fun thing, and it gives me great pleasure to say this: the Natalie Cortez Band has released their first music, a new single called “You Did Well”! You can listen to it (and hopefully purchase it and support the band) here:

*Editor’s note: The other Sacramento band I immediately got smitten with when I first moved here was Go National, featuring Kevin Seconds and Allyson Seconds.

Enjoy the show!
